ALPHA
STUDENTS ON A GLOBAL VENTURE

|
Four students
of Alpha Matriculation Higher Secondary
school took part in IDEERS 2011 (Introducing,
demonstrating earthquake engineering research
in schools) at Taipei city, Taiwan. The
competition was organized by the British
Council and the National Centre of Research
on Earthquake Engineering (NCREE), Taiwan.
There were 50 teams from
all over Asia in the High School category
and the team from Alpha was the only representation
from India which is a commendable achievement
under the support and encouragement of the
Principal Mrs. M. Vijaya Lakshmi. This was
also the first time students from India
took part in this competition.
The competition was all
about constructing a model of a building, according to certain rules with materials
given by the organizers such that it could
withstand an earthquake of a very high magnitude.
The team leader Harsha. P std. XII said that it was a wonderful
experience where Knowledge, skill and precision
were put to test. An experience to be cherished
for a life time. The other members were
Biju Yeshrun Std. XII, Megnath. R and
Kishore Kumar. S of std. XI. Mr. J. Srinivasan
H.O.D (Physics department) was their mentor
and accompanied the team to Taipei.
The trip spanned a period of 6 days from
21st to 26th September and the competition
was held on the 24th and the 25th. The
Alpha team was lauded for their excellent
performance with certificates and bag full
of goodies.

DEDICATION
CEREMONY - STANDARD XI
|

|
A dedication ceremony was
held for standard XI students of Alpha Matriculation
Higher secondary school- West C.I.T Nagar
Chennai - 35 on 16th June 2011.
The solemn function was led by Rev. Peter
Francis Presbyter In-charge Saint Andrews
church.
Dr. Mrs. Grace
George Chairperson Alpha Group
of Institutions gave her valuable advice
to the students.
Mrs. M. Vijaya Lakshmi Principal spoke
on the occasion.

GREATER PARTICIPATION
FOR A STRONGER DEMOCRACY
ALPHA MATRICULATION HIGHER SECONDARY SCHOOL
CELEBRATES- FIRST NATIONAL VOTERS DAY

The students celebrated the
first National voter’s day with great
reverence and enthusiasm. The Principal
Mrs. M. Vijaya Lakshmi welcomed the gathering.
The day commenced with a thought provoking
speech sensitizing the students to exercise
their franchise as they are the future voters.
This was followed by a skit presented
by the students of class XI. The programme
was witnessed by the Chennai Corporation
officials. The Election Photo Identity Card
was given to eligible voters who are residing
in 136 Saidapet Division Constituency in
the presence of the Polling Booth officials.

MUSICAL KOLAM CONTEST

Keeping in tune with the season
of Margazi and its festivities an interschool
competition on Musical Kolam was conducted
by Yokibu (Pasonel Technologies Pvt.
Ltd.) and Big FM 92.7.The preliminary round
for Alphians was held in the school campus.
The students showcased their artistic talent.
The vibrant colours and intricate designs
brought out the festivity of the season.
The first two winners took home prizes and
complements were given to the other participants.
At the school level, the first prize was
bagged by K.Soundariya- VIII A and the second
prize to G.K.Abinaya – IX D. The Children,
Parents and Teachers had an interactive
session where live bytes of the participants
were aired live on Yokibu and Big FM 92.7.
Mrs.M.Vijaya Lakshmi Principal flagged off
the event.

CHRISTMAS CELEBRATIONS

The Principal Mrs. M.Vijaya Lakshmi greeted
the students on the occasion.

The students of Alpha Mat.
Hr. Sec. School celebrated Christmas in
a grand manner. Bro. Gabriel Thomas of Impact
foundation was the chief guest. The children
presented the nativity scene – the
birth of Jesus Christ, dances and carols.
The chief guest’s message centered
around the true meaning of Christmas which
is love, peace & joy.
The Principal Mrs. M.Vijaya Lakshmi greeted
the students on the occasion.

As a part of the Global school exchange
programme Mrs. Nalini Ravi Vice Principal
of Alpha Matriculation School reciprocated
the visit of Ms. Sally Patrickson teacher
and Coordinator for Peoples Literary Programme
of Levendale Primary school who was in Chennai
in the month of March 2010.
Mrs. Nalini Ravi during her visit to UK
in the month of April interacted with the
teachers, students, parents, community
and had discussions about collaborative
projects, syllabus, teaching methods,
student attitudes, perceptions and habits.
The children of Levendale school were exposed
to the Indian costumes, games food and traditions. They learnt Indian games like Pallankuzhi
with enthusiasm. It was indeed a cultural
fiesta for the students of Levendale.

Alpha school in its continuous effort to
provide best exposure from the world educational
scenario has taken up the global school
partnership programmme sponsored by British
Council. The objective of the program is
to open the minds of young children to global
issues and provide an opportunity for them
to discuss and enter into collaborative
projects with children of the global partner
school. Alpha was privileged to receive
the programme grant for both primary and
secondary level.
Alpha primary children partnered with children
of Levendale Primary school Stockton UK
and Alpha Secondary with Northumberland
Church of England Academy, UK.
In the month of April /May Ms.Vijayalakshmi
Principal, Ms. Reena Alfred Vice Principal
visited the Northumberland Church of England
Academy, UK. Their visit will be reciprocated
by Ms. Alexandra Dawson and Ms. Claire Hines,
Head of Social Science Department in June
/ July 2010.
As a part of the exchange programs Ms. Sally
Patrickson visited Alpha in Feb 2010. During
her visit she interacted with students, teachers
and parents and shared ideas. Ms. Nalini
Ravi Vice Principal, reciprocated the visit
to Levendale school.
The main focus during these visits is to
widen horizons in Global Dimensions which
will in turn pave the way for sustainable
development in the partnership and there
by enhance the exchange programme between
teachers and students for another three
years.

In view of the Global school
partnership grant awarded by British Council
to Alpha Matriculation Higher Secondary school
West C.I.T Nagar Chennai, Ms. Alexandra Dawson
and Ms. Claire Hines Head of Social Science
Department from Northumberland Church of England
Academy UK are currently in Alpha interacting
with teachers, students and parents on collaborative
projects, syllabus and teaching methodologies.
They are here on a reciprocal visit of the
Principal Ms. M. Vijaya Lakshmi and Vice Principal
Ms. Reena Alfred ‘s visit to the U.K.
in the month of April.2010.
Alphians have showcased the Indian culture
and treated them to exquisite Tamil Nadu cuisine
. They joined the Vanamahotsav programme and
planted saplings to spread the message “Go Green“. |

The 64th Independence Day was celebrated
with pomp and splendour at Alpha Matriculation
Higher Secondary school West C.I.T Nagar,
Ch-35.
The Guest of honour RIS.S.Balasamy Junior
Commissioned Officer 1(TN) Armed Sqdn. NCC
Chennai hoisted the National flag.
He inaugurated the NCC Troop took the salute
and inspected the first batch of NCC Cadets
under the NCC caretaker Mr. N.P.Mathan Kumar.
Mr.RIS.S.Balasamy in his speech emphasized
the need for keeping the spirit of patriotism
for the nation alive and vibrant. RIS. S.
Subhas Singh Junior commissioned Officer
1(TN) Armed Sqdn. NCC Chennai also joined
in the celebration.
The Principal Mrs.M. Vijaya Lakshmi welcomed
the gathering. Dr.(Mrs.) Grace George Chairperson
Alpha Group of Institutions delivered the
Presidential address. Senior Principal Dr.J.D.Johnson
proposed the vote of thanks.
The highlight of the day was the cultural
fiesta put up by the students.
